Modern Jester

A project on the preconceived assumption of gender norms through the concept of humor. Though humor is a common factor among people, it differs and is perceived differently depending upon factors such as geographical location, culture, level of education, intelligence, context and even gender. Even the comedy industry like standup comedy is predominantly men-occupied. Do we need documentaries about “women in comedy”?

Looking back at clowns, which originate from historic characters called King’s fools who are also called Jesters. This project has textiles which are Non-binary wearable objects inspired by female jesters of the Medieval era. The objects are unique, versatile and solely depend on the person using them. These objects are constructed in a way that it interacts differently with whoever is using them. Spectators can interact with it and find their way of humor with the object.
